Agrippa, Henricus Cornelius. THE VANITY OF ARTS AND SCIENCES. London: Printed by J. C. for Samuel Speed. 1676. 8vo. (18),368pp. Index. Copper engraved frontispiece portrait. Cont. calf, rebacked with an elaborately gilt tooled spine, red morocco spine label. A very nice copy.	$1,750.00 (trade discount allowed)
Scarce first edition of a new English translation (after the 2 editions in 1569 and 1575, which were translated by James Sanford), the translator not being named. A very popular Latin text in the 16th & 17th centuries. It is a sarcastic attack on the existing sciences and the pretensions of learned men. Agrippa (1486-1535) wrote this work in Latin about 1527. It was first published in Antwerp in 1531. Wing A790.
