The Sykes, whose home base was Rochester, New York, embarked on the Anchor Line "SS California" for Frank C. Clark's "Seventh Around the World Cruise", with a single ticket listed two years later as $1,000 and up, these two ladies who went First Class, probably paid a great deal more.

The album is filled with menus, luggage tags, passenger lists, postcards and clipped articles about the places they visited, including an 18-page manuscript journal. There are about 25 snapshots of the members of the tour enjoying the sights, and several professional photos of large groups of passengers. Also included is a Directory of the Misions and Missionaries of the Philippines and the Constitution of the Kwansa Bu of the Japan National WCTU Kobe, Japan and the 1927 Year Book. Annual Report for 1926 of the Young Women's Christian Association, Calcutta together with two letters and a Christmas card from Catharine Gregg, a native of Colorado Springs who was the General Secretary of the YWCA in Calcutta from March 1926 to September 1930 "...I am appreciating more & more the need for American secretaries to be in India. One of our young Amer. Girls is ill with T.B. Her Indian husband has been unemployed so long that her struggle is made even harder than it would otherwise be. It is some comfort to feel that I can do something for her-even to arranging for sanitarium care when she is well enough to leave hospital."

The ship left New York, bound for Cuba, then through the Canal, stopping at Colombo and Balboa, to Los Angeles where they did the obligatory Hollywood House Tour and then on out into the Pacific for a few days in Hawaii. From Hawaii to Tokyo and Kobe, while in Japan they visited cultured pearl farms, silk shops, a giant Budhha image, then on to Shanghai and Hong Kong, Manila, Batavia, Singapore, Rangoon, Bombay, in India they visited the burning ghats, the Taj Mahal, and then set sail for Suez.

Overland in Egypt they visited the pyramids, stayed at Shepherds, and then went on to Jerusalem, visiting Bethlehem, Petra and the quarry from which the stone to build Solomon's temple was quarried. Then to Naples, Monaco and Cherbourg where they disembarked and made their way to Paris and then on to London for an optional shorter trip.

They returned to New York on the Cunard "RMS Aquitania"
