[Alfred Thornton; Charles Williams, illustrator:] The Adventures of a Post Captain: By a Naval Officer. With Characteristic Engravings, by Mr. Williams. London: J. Johnston [etc.], [1817]. First edition, second issue. Tall 8vo (23.5 cm); modern half navy blue morocco over paste paper boards, gilt spine titles; [4] + 280 pp; with 25 hand-colored aquatint plates, including the frontispiece and title-page. Tooley 485.

The engraved title-page give the title slightly differently:The Post Captain or The Adventures of a True British Tar. By either name, a rollicking salty sea saga in verse accompanied by Williams's spirited illustrations. Some offsetting from the plates; last text leaf browned and creased with paper repairs to the edges; scattered spotting, mostly to the text leaves; otherwise quite clean and sound, firmly bound.
