TITLE: “Notes sur la Peinture a la Cire Cauterisee ou Procede Encaustique
d'apres les laborieuses recherches de Paillot de Montabert”

Published in Paris by Librarie Renouard in 1875.

DISCUSSION: A summary of research work being done on the process,
materials and applications of encaustic, or lost (hot) wax painting,
including a section on its applications to dyeing cloth. Jacques-Nicolas
Paillot Montabert [1771-1849] forty-nine ) was a French painter who "was
one of the first to focus on the painting techniques of the ancient times
and the Middle Ages , especially in encaustic painting."

DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 7.5"x11", 39 pages plus 7 engraved plates
illustrating the tools used for preparing and applying wax, as well as
easels, suggested arrangement of artist's boxes, etc.

CONDITION NOTES: An ex-library copy, lacking the original covers but
retaining the half- title; bound into old marbled boards and cloth covers;
soiled, contents a bit browned and printed on a paper which has become
very brittle and has some edge chipping. One or two hinge cracks. Some old
perforated library stamps (please see the photos).
