(1947). First Edition. This later issue dustwrapper, priced at $3.50,
portrays the main character, Boone Caudill, on the front cover and two
other characters on the rear panel. It was created by the same artist,
Alan Haemer, who also created the first issue jacket. The 1952 film
adaptation directed by Howard Hawks and starring Kirk Douglas received
