TITLE: “The Best of the Pips. A Collection of the Writings About The
Writings By the Members of The Five Orange Pips Scion Society of The Baker
Street Irregulars”

Published in New York by The Five Orange Pips of Westchester County in 1955.

DISCUSSION: An interesting collection of essays about Sherlock Holmes and
Doctor Watson, prepared over the years for the group's annual dinner
party. "The Five Orange Pips was organized in 1934. Beginning with five
members, our company has gradually increased to ten. Our annual dinner
meetings are held at the homes of our members, and the evening is given to
serious discussion of the various [Sherlock Holmes] adventures,
supplemented by many forms of literary endeavor offered by each and every
member present. While The Pips is not a secret Society, we have constantly
maintained a passion for anonymity."

It is probably unnecessary to note that "The Five Orange Pips" was a
Sherlock Holmes story first published in The Strand magazine in November
1891. "Conan Doyle later ranked the story seventh in a list of his twelve
favourite Sherlock Holmes stories. This is also one of only two Sherlock
Holmes short stories where Holmes' client dies after seeking his help."

DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 6"x9", 114 pages.

CONDITION NOTES: Covers with minor fading, light soil. With a short,
somewhat cryptic (and partially legible) pencil inscription on a
preliminary page, signed "Baskerville (Torquemada)", who was actually
member Benjamin C. Clark.

PRICE: $65 -
