Three titles from a series of books on the history and battles of the
American Revolution privately published by the Philip Freneau Press, named
for Philip Freneau [1752–1832], poet, sea captain and newspaper editor who
has been called the "Poet of the American Revolution".

Each has the bookplate of Massachusetts historian, collector and
philanthropist Russell W. Knight who, according to Marblehead Magazine,
"donated a collection of 350 historical manuscripts relating to Elbridge
Gery, John Adams, Samuel Adams, and other patriots of the Revolutionary
War to the Massachusetts Historical Society [and] a collection of maritime
art to the Peabody Institute of Salem, so large that the museum dedicated
a special section of its building to the collection".
