TITLE: “Les Textiles Anciens du Perou et leurs techniques”

By Raoul d'Harcourt.
Published in Paris by Les Editions d'Art et d'Histoire in 1934.

DISCUSSION: A massive, classic study of pre-Columbian Peruvian textiles.
This interesting book examines both specimens and construction techniques,
and is illustrated with examples from collections around the world. The
introduction "discusses yarns, dyes, looms, and raw materials; the first
of the two-part text examines weaves, and the second considers such
nonwoven materials as braiding, felt, and embroidery". French text.

A noted ethnologist and expert on Pre-Columbian South America, Raoul
d'Harcourt was married to Marguerite d'Harcourt, the French composer and
ethno-musicologist, and in the 1920s the two maintained a Parisian salon
where many of the Brazilian diaspora in France gathered.

DESCRIPTION: Softcover. 10"x13", 170 pages plus 109 black & white plates.

CONDITION NOTES: Rebacked, some cover soil, and several chips to the
spine; covers splitting along the spine in several places, some light
scattered internal foxing.
