president and vice-president in 1860, compiled by the Washington 
correspondent of the New York Independent and Evening Post. This imprint 
with the "[Authorized Edition]" notice on title page and without the 
notifications and acceptances included in later variants. See MONAGHAN 
#25; MILES #401; etc. The original 150 page biography is here 
supplemented with a selection of Lincoln speeches and the sketch of 
Hamlin. Tissue-guarded frontispiece portrait of Lincoln engraved on 
steel by R. S. Jones after the "Cooper Union" photograph (O-17) by 
Matthew Brady. Bound in original brown cloth with gilt and blind 
stamping, pale yellow endpapers. Light rubs at fore corner tips, shallow 
bumps at fore corners and spine ends. Binding sound, no hinge
