Bagatelles Anonymes, Recueillies par un Amateur. [BOUND WITH:] Suite des Bagatelles Anonymes, Recueillies par un Amateur. A Geneve [Geneva], 1767. Presumed first editions. Text in French. Two volumes bound as one, small 8vo (19.5 cm), in recent lavender wraps with a printed label on the front cover; all page edges gilt; 30 pp.; 35 + [1] pp.; half-title to the first volume (all called for); engraved head- and tail-pieces, woodcut vignettes, borders and capitals.

Two charming, uncommon and handsomely printed collections of verse, the first opening with an "epistle" addressed to Voltaire, Epitre a M. de Voltaire, sur la complaisance qu'il a d'ecrire a tout le monde. The first collection is generally attributed to Claude-Joseph Dorat; the second variously to Dorat and Alexandre-Frédéric-Jacques Masson, marquis de Pezay.

Mild toning to the leaves and darkening to the edges, light soiling to the half-title; two opposing pages with a small circle of abrasion in the margins, a few stray spots and faint creases, otherwise clean and sound, firmly bound.
