CASTRO, Fidel. FIDEL AND RELIGION: CASTRO TALKS ON REVOLUTION AND
RELIGION WITH FREI BETTO. New York: Simon & Schuster, (1987). First
Edition. Introduction by Harvey Cox. Lengthily INSCRIBED and SIGNED on
the publisher's logo page by the author: "Para el Sr. Edgard/Bronfman,
como recuerdo/de su visita a Cuba y de/la interesante e
instructiva/conversacion que hemos sos-/tenido/Amistosamente/Fidel
Castro/Mayo 12, 1987." Books signed by Castro are scarce, and this is a
specially interesting example. Fine in a Fine dustwrapper.

After his father's death in 1971, Edgar Bronfman took over as president
of Distillers Corporation-Seagrams Ltd. He became well-known
internationally during the 1980s and 1990s as the president of the World
Jewish Congress leading campaigns to free Soviet Jewry and compensating
victims of the Holocaust and their heirs, as well as exposing the Nazi
past of Austrian president Kurt Waldheim. In 1982 he became the first
representative of a Jewish organization to speak before the United
Nations. He was awarded a Presidential Medal of Freedom by Bill Clinton
in 1999. In April, 2012 Bronfman joined 68 other billionaires in the
Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Giving Pledge. Bronfman's former
father-in-law, John L. Loeb, owned 40% of Cuban Atlantic Sugar and had
large personal holdings of Cuban real estate. The Bronfman family also
had connections to the Kennedy family, going back to the Prohibition era
and the head of each dynasty, Samuel Bronfman, Edgar's father, and Joe
Kennedy, father of the assassinated President. Over the years there has
been speculation, tenuous as it is, tying the Bronfman family to the
assassination of John F. Kennedy. (#016944) $3,500.00
