McQUILL, Thursty. THE HUDSON RIVER GUIDE; CONTAINING A DESCRIPTION OF
ALL THE LANDINGS AND PRINCIPAL PLACES ON THE HUDSON RIVER, AS FAR AS
NAVIGABLE; STAGE, CANAL, AND RAILROAD ROUTES, ACCOMPANIED BY A CORRECT
MAP. New York: J. Disturnell, 1835. First Edition. Original very dark
green leather with gilt lettering on the front cover, later rebacking
with new endpapers (3-1/4" x 5"). The guide consists of 16 pages of text
with a frontispiece engraved view of the Battery and Castle Garden and a
large (4-3/4" x 25") attractively hand-colored folding map drawn by
David H. Burr and engraved by S. Stiles & Co. depicting the area from
Sandy Hook to Glens Falls and Luzerne, including Brooklyn and western
Long Island, Staten Island, and part of New Jersey. Front cover
dampstained, most noticeable on the inside. Text with slight dampstain;
the engraving, now mounted on a fabric stub, and the map, which has been
expertly repaired and backed with transparent silk, are not affected by
the dampstain. Overall Very Good and quite scarce. (#016938) $600.00
