Offered today:

3 titles printed by the Bayberry Hill Press, from the library of Muir Dawson.

The Bayberry Hill Press was operated in Meriden, CT, by Foster Macy Johnson and his wife, Ruth, from 1958 until approximately 1976. Foster Johnson was in his mid-50s with a successful career in printing and advertising, when he suffered a series of heart attacks. While recuperating, he decided it was time for him to have his own private press and produce books for his own pleasure.

The Bayberry Hill Press printed a number of children's books written and illustrated by Ruth. They also printed books written and illustrated by their grandchildren. But the Johnson's were also interested in the fine press tradition including the work of William Morris and Charles H. St. John Hornby and the Ashendene Press. Offered here is a bibliography of the first 10 years of the Bayberry Hill Press, a lecture by St. John Hornby, printed for the first time, and a copy of their Bookman's Holiday, which recounts a journey to England to visit the presses that inspired them.
