The Gentleman's Magazine: and Historical Chronicle. For the Year MDCCXC [1790]. Volume LX [60]. Part the Second. London: Printed by John Nichols for David Henry, 1790. First edition. Six monthly issues (July-Dec.), plus the Supplement for the Year 1790, volume title, indices and preface. Thick 8vo in early quarter calf and marbled boards; [3], 582-1236 p. (ca. 657 pp. total). With 20 engraved plates, two of which are folding (complete). Wear and rubbing to the boards; spine rubbed and dried and just starting to split at the ends; toning and intermittent light browning to the leaves; occasional offsetting from and to the text and a few of the plates; a few small spots and stains; otherwise quite clean and sound, with the full complement of plates.

This volume with extensive contemporary coverage of the FRENCH REVOLUTION raging across the channel, including articles on: the Proceedings of the National Assembly; the opening of the States General; the soldiers rise at Nancy; resignation of M. Necker; Account of the Disturbances of Oct. 5, 6, 1789; the Debate on changing the National Colours; "The Destruction of the Bastille: An Irregular Ode" (a poem); etc., etc. There are also several pieces on BENJAMIN FRANKLIN, who died this year, including a Tribute of Homage paid to him at Paris; his Will; Account of his Family; as well a numerous other articles of American interest.

The 25 PLATES (each with accompanying text) include:
	  The Lancaster Humane Society's APPARATUS FOR COMMUNICATING HEAT TO BODIES APPARENTLY DEAD, invented by Mr. Harvey, surgeon of Manchester (clearly a forerunner of Dr. Victor von Frankenstein).
