Marliani, Bartolomeo. "L'Antichita di Roma. Tradotte in lingua vulgar da
Hercole Barbarasa"

Rome; Per Andrea Fei: 1622.

First published in May, 1534, Marliani's popular guide to the topography,
architecture and antiquities of Rome went through many corrected and
augmented editions in the succeeding two centuries. Late 17th century
editions of the book were illustrated with numerous period engraved
plates, but there is a certain charm, for American collectors, to this
edition of a title on ancient Rome published at the same time the first
English settlers were arriving in America.

Hardcover. 2.75"x5", title page, xxii + 310 pages, engraved plate (lacking
the outer half of the plate). Period boards and vellum spine. Covers
soiled and worn, some soil, last dozen leaves with a wormhole affecting
the page numbers, folding plate lacking the outer half of the plate.
[39688] $250
