Experimental Fires Extinguished by Phillips' Patent Fire Annihilator. At Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Bradford, Stockport (Cotton Mill), and Earl of Derby's Seat, Knowsley [London:] Metcalfe, Printer, Grocers' Hall Court, Poultry, [ca. 1851]. Pamphlet, 8vo (20.75 cm); 11 + [1] pp. Probably extracted from a volume of pamphlets, but with the original stitched binding present; mild browning to the leaves, light wear to the edges, creases from folding; added ink page numbers to the upper corners of the pages, a few scattered spots to the first page.

The "Annihilator" was a piston-activated fire extinguisher that used a mixture of sulfuric acid, chlorate of potassa and sugar to create an explosion that produced steam. Sounds rather dangerous to us, but the testimonials here, including one from the Earl of Derby himself, are glowing in their praise.
