DISCUSSION: Published as Volume 21 of the Textile Museum Journal. The
catalog to an exhibition of textiles of various types from Roman-period
Egypt in the Museum collection. The Preface notes- "Between 1925 and his
death in 1957, George Hewitt Myers, founder of the Textile Museum,
assembled an outstanding collection of Late Roman and Medieval textiles of
the type widely known as Coptic. Since his death the Museum has added to
the collection, and now possesses well over four hundred examples. They
range from small fragments to a number of pieces remarkable for their size
and completeness, including several that are among the largest and finest
known today... In June 1981 the Museum was fortunate in persuading James
Trilling, an historian of Late Roman and Byzantine Art, to join the staff
of the Museum and to begin work at once on this catalogue of textiles of
the Roman period from Egypt."
