Some Brief Remarks on the Debates of the House of Commons in the last Parliament at Oxford. [London:] Printed by N. Thompson for the Author, Anno Dom. MDCLXXXIII [1683]. FIRST EDITION. Pamphlet, 4to (22.5 cm), bound in modern burgundy french wraps; [4] + 24 pp. Wing S4477A; ESTC R16315.

In March of 1681, the fourth and final parliament summoned by Charles II assembled at Oxford. But when the House of Commons again pressed for the Exclusion Bill, by which Charles's brother James, a Catholic, would be excluded from the line of succession, the king dissolved parliament after only a few days. He would rule without this unruly body for the remainder of his reign. The anonymous author of this lively pamphlet sides with Charles against parliament's efforts to "Thwart the King" ("…could it be expected that the King should Disinherit His Onely Brother, His Companion in, and Sharer of all His Misfortunes: He who Suffer'd so much with Him, and hath so often Ventur'd his Life Bravely for Him..?") Light browning and cockling to the edges, some wear to the top edges, small ink numeral to the title-page, otherwise quite clean and crisp, firmly bound in sharp modern wraps. Uncommon: ESTC locates only 4 copies in the U.S.
