TITLE: “The H.J. Joel Collection of English Sporting Pictures”

The catalog to an auction sale held in London by Christie, Manson & Woods
on July 13, 1984.

DISCUSSION: H.J. (Jim) Joel, who came from a family of gold mine owners in
South Africa, was a racehorse owner and breeder, owner of the Childwick
Bury Estate in Hertfordshire. His horses won both the Derby (in 1967) and
the Grand National (in 1987). This noted sale included works by Alken,
Herring, and Stubbs.

DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 8”x10.5”, 51 pages, 24 lots, color plates (several
folding), dust jacket. Prices noted in pen.

CONDITION NOTES: Minor wear, but otherwise clean and nice, with a tight
binding.
