The Dispensatory of the Royal College of Physicians in Edinburgh. Translated from the Latin, and Illustrated with Notes, by Peter Shaw, M.D. London: Printed for William and John Innys, at the West-End of St. Paul’s, MDCCXXVII [1727]. First edition; unusual issue with the year corrected on the title-page, but with the preface erroneously dated 1721 (not in ESTC). Hardcover 8vo in modern buckram binding and printed spine label; xi + [1] + 281 + [3] pp.; with initial and terminal blanks, publisher's adverts.

A translation of the 1722 edition of the Pharmacopoeia Collegii Regii Medicorum Edinburgensis, with descriptions of and/or recipes for Medicinal Simples, Distill'd Waters, Spirits, Tinctures, Syrups, Decoctions, "Honeys, Gellies, Juices, and their Faeces," etc., etc.

Intermittent worming to the fore-edge of the text block resulting in modest loss to the text at the edges of the terminal leaves of publisher's adverts and the page numbers on the last leaf of the index; additionally, the worming just touches the text on the first page of the preface and several other leaves, but these are still perfectly legible; fore-edges of the title-page and initial blank leaf professionally repaired; occasional light spotting and toning; otherwise clean and sound, firmly bound. Early/original owner's ink signature on the title-page.
