LIMITED EDITION of 500 copies printed and bound at the University Press, Cambridge for presentation by the University Printer to friends in printing and publishing, Christmas 1957, using original material created by Lucien Pissarro in the collection of the Cambridge University Press. Brooke Crutchley considered this one of the best books in the Christmas Book Series. “Its scale is right (small octavo, 60 pages), the reproductions of Pissarro prints from the original blocks are wonderfully accurate, the text (both Lucien Pissarro’s and Alan Fern’s) is light and informative. By this memorial to the Eragny Press we went some way to repay the late Madame Esther Pissarro for her generosity in presenting us with the surviving types and ornaments. They form a valued part of our collection of material related to the private press movement initiated by Morris, fully described in the 1951 book.” Crutchley, A Printer’s Christmas Books, p. 29.
