The Gentleman's Magazine, and Historical Chronicle. Volume XII [12]. For the Year MDCCXLIII [1742]. London: Printed for Edw. Cave, jun. at St. John's Gate, [1742]. Twelve monthly issues (Jan.-Dec.), plus the supplement, volume title, indices and preface. Tall 8vo (21.5 cm), untrimmed in early calf-backed marbled boards; [4] + 699 + [17] pp.; with charts and tables, numerous woodcut diagrams, maps and illustrations, musical notation, plus one folding copper-engraved plate (complete)... 

The contents include:

	- An account of "The Spanish Invasion of GEORGIA" (with a small, early map of the Georgia sea islands: Sapola Island, Little St. Simons Island, Great St. Simons Island, Jeckyl Island, Cumberland Island, and Amelia Island)
	- Several contributions by SAMUEL JOHNSON, including: the Preface; "Debates in the Senate of Lilliput" (thinly disguised and far from literal transcriptions of Parliamentary debates); "Life of Dr. [Thomas] Sydenham"; "An Account of the Harleian Library"; "Life of Peter Burman"; "Additional Account of the Life of Barretier"; "Essay on DuHalde's Description of China"; etc.
