and slipcased copies.

First Edition (Limited Deluxe Edition, slipcased). Small quarto. Five 
volumes, original cloth (each volume in a different shade of tan / 
brown), titles in black on spine panels. 500 copies issued, of which 
this is one of 400 numbered sets (numbered 101-500) in slipcase, this 
being copy #469 (the first 100 sets were bound in red faux leather 
and contained PKD's signature, albeit posthumously clipped from a 
cheque). This set has the 4 page pamphlet "Brief Synopsis for 
Alternate World Novel THE ACTS OF PAUL laid into the first volume, as 
issued. Each volume bears a separate foreword by a different author: 
Roger Zelazy; Norman Spinrad; John Brunner; James Tiptree, Jr; & 
Thomas M. Disch. A fine set in black cloth slipcase, without dust 
jackets, as issued.


  The first edition, first impression of this major posthumous 
collection of Philip K. Dick's stories. Volume One also includes a 
Preface by the author (from a letter written in the year before his 
death in 1982) and a foreword by Steven Owen Godersky. The "Brief 
Synopsis..." pamphlet was only included with copies of the Deluxe 
issue; it publishes for the first time Dick's plan for an unwritten 
novel set in a world in which Paul of Tarsus was never converted on 
the road to Damascus, leaving Christianity to die out and Manichaeism 
to become the established religion. A major collection by a major 
author.
