JEFFERS, Robinson. THE WOMEN AT POINT SUR. New York: Boni & Liveright,
1927. First Edition. Cloth-backed boards. This long narrative poem is
one of Jeffers's finest works. This copy is SIGNED by the poet on the
front free endpaper on 1 December 1927 at Tor House, Carmel, and
contains the following MANUSCRIPT lines from the poem in the poet's
hand: "'He is darker to himself than to me,/He is neither a child nor a
man, he has no understanding./He is terrible,' he said with tranquil
eyes./He intended the multiform God but it was Barclay on the
hilltop---." Books signed by the poet with manuscript verse are
decidedly scarce. Light chipping to tips of spine of dustwrapper which
is slightly darkened. About Fine in Very Good or better dustwrapper.
