I can offer...

Arrian’s History of Alexander’s Expedition. Translated From the Greek. With Notes Historical, Geographical, and Critical. By Mr. [John] Rooke. To which is prefixed Mr. Le Clerc’s Criticism Upon Quintus Curtius; and some remarks upon Mr. Perizonius’s Vindication of That Author. A New Edition. London: for R. Lea, 1814. Two 8vo volumes, nineteenth-century dark green morocco and marbled boards, gilt lettered and ruled spines. xix, lxxxiv, 261; [ii], 360 pp. A few modest scuffs to the binding, otherwise a very good copy.

A pleasing edition of the Anabasis of Arrian ((b. AD 85-90), whose account of Alexander the Great’s campaigns was informed by his own career as a successful officer in the Roman Arny, and relied on three of Alexander’s own officers as sources. John Rooke’s translation was first published in 1729. According to F. Seymour Smith, “A contemporary critic says that this translation ‘appears to be a very just and faithful one, and to have truly represented the sense of the author’” (The Classics in Translation, p. 78).
