Le Comte de Monte-Cristo. Par Alexandre Dumas. Six Volumes in Three
(complete). Paris: Michel Lévy Frères, 1850. Later Michel Lévy Frères
printing (1st printing of this publisher was in 6 vols. in 1846).
Duodecimo 12mo. (7” x 4 ½”). Vol. I: 299 (230) pp. Vol. II: 328 (329) pp.
[bound together]; Vol. III: 319 (321) pp. Vol. IV: 308 (309) pp. [bound
together]; Vol. V: 286 (287) pp. Vol. VI: 278 (279) pp. [bound together].

Half bound in leather with morocco spine labels, ornate gilt decoration
and marbled paper covered boards. Tan end papers and speckled paper
edges. 

Very Good set with darkening and chipping at top spine edges, mild rub at
corners and board edges. Bindings are tight, though there is a bit of
splitting at joints. Contents slightly age-toned, paper crisp and free of
spotting. No torn pages found. No previous owner markings. Scarce in such
nice condition. Only seventeen libraries hold this 1850 edition according
to WorldCat.

Alexandre Dumas (1802-1870), prolific playwright, novelist, travel writer,
and the founder of the Théâtre Historique in Paris, was most famous for
his wildly popular adventure novels, such as The Count of Monte-Cristo and
The Three Musketeers.
