We offer for sale the first issue of the famous Surrealist magazine /VVV/.
Publication commenced in 1942 in New York City under the editorship of
David Hare. André Breton and Max Ernst acted as editorial advisers, and
/VVV/'s editorial board also enlisted a number of associated
thinkers and artists, including Aimé Césaire, Philip Lamantia, and
Robert Motherwell. Only four issues were published (numbers two and
three being combined into one). /VVV/ provided an important
outlet for European Surrealist artists, displaced from their home
countries by World War Two, to communicate with American artists.

This first issue is "perfect bound" in stiff card covers, tinted green,
with the cover art designed by Max Ernst. It contains 72 pages and
contributions by Lionel Abel, William Carlos Williams, André Masson,
André Breton, Claude Lévi-Strauss, Robert Motherwell, and others. It is
illustrated throughout. Our copy is quite sunned to the front cover.
There are two small "splotches" to the right side. The rear cover is
sunned at the extreme edges. The hinges are holding but stressed. The
contents are exceptionally clean and tight.

Images supplied upon request.
