Amsterdam: George Gallet, 1700. Second Edition. The First Edition was
published in 1699. Duodecimo (3-3/4" x 6") bound in contemporary calf
leather with heavily gilt-decorated spine and a gilt-lettered red
morocco spine label; vi, 295 pages. Illustrated with an engraved
frontispiece and 12 engraved plates including two of bullfighting. More
than half of the book is devoted to Martin's travels through Spain with
a detailed description of Madrid and commentaries on the cities on
route. The two engravings of bullfighting are accompanied by 15 or so
pages of description. In addition Martin gives recipes for chocolate and
describes councils of war, the Inquisition, etc. From Madrid Martin went
on to Andalusia and Lisbon before moving on to Germany and France.
