Charles White, the Celebrated Ethiopian Comedian. DeWitt's Ethiopian and
Comic Drama, No. 14. NY: Robert M. DeWitt, 1874. First Edition. pp: 5, (5)
publisher's ads; sketch of stage setting. As first produced at the American
Theatre, No. 444 Broadway, New York, 1864. 7.75" x 4.5" Very Good. Original
Wrappers.
Charles White (1821-1891), who wrote this comic drama, was an early
blackface minstrel entertainer as well as a prolific author. [See Brown,
Early History of Negro Minstrelsy, for a biography of White. WorldCat
locates only two holdings of this pamphlet: UPenn and Columbia. Blockson
records several other "Negro burlesques" arranged by White, not this one.]
