(17pp text, followed by blanks, ad-layout diagrams, and six ads) + 46pp
(text, ads, and an elaborate centerfold in full color showing beer labels
made by the Imperial Lithographing Co.).  11.5" x 8.5" Very Good. Pictorial
Paper Covers.
The inaugural issue contains an editorial which begins: "Beer--real
beer--is coming back! Wet sentiment that has been growing increasingly
stronger during the last few years and finally culminated in a 'landslide'
on November 8th for the political party with a 'soaking wet' platform must
soon be recognized. It is now only a question of time until the Volstead
Act is modified...." Other articles in issue #1 (actually a prospectus for
advertisers) are: "When Beer Comes Back"; "A Statement Relating to the
Relegalization of Beer" by August A. Busch; "Beer and Light Wines for This
Year's Christmas." The back cover is an ad for the manufacture of beer
barrels by Verdi Bros. Cooperage Co., Hoboken, N.J. ~~ Issue #2 includes an
editorial and a number of articles, including: "Modification of Federal
Prohibition"; Beer Trade Marks; Packaging Beer; Chicago to Maintain Beer
Position; etc. The back cover is an ad for The Tankard--Made of Solid
Copper by West Bend Aluminum Co. [OCLC locates only four holdings of these
first two issues: UCal-Davis, UChicago, Linda Hall and Milwaukee County
Library. The NYPL holdings begin with Volume Two. This journal later merged
with Modern Brewer to become Modern Brewery Age.] (#036569)        $350.00
