to the Revelations. EMBELLISHED WITH FAMILIAR 
FIGURES AND STRIKING EMBLEMS, Neatly Engraved. To 
the whole is added, A Sketch of the Life of Our 
Blessed Saviour, and The Holy Apostles, &c. New 
York: Published by Samuel Wood & Sons, No. 261 
Pearl-Street, and Samuel Wood & Co, No. 212, 
Market-street, Baltimore. 1818. Small 12mo, 
original gray paper-covered boards with red 
morocco spine titled, ruled and decorated in 
gilt. 56 + [16] pp. Contemporary ink name on 
front paste-down, small ink spot on front free 
endpaper, foxing to endpapers, browning and light 
foxing to text block, covers slightly bowed with 
some spotting. Overall, a very nice copy, in an 
unusually nice early 19th Century American Publisher's Binding.

¶ Rather a condensed version of the Bible, the 
Compiler's Preface stating that "The Publisher of 
the present edition of the Hieroglyphical 
Bible.... has omitted some parts of the old, 
which contained hieroglyphics of beings to which 
we cannot attach form or shape, as calculated to 
give gross and incorrect ideas; others, because 
the emblems were not sufficiently striking to be 
understood by the infant mind."
