MERIMEE, Prosper. CARMEN. New York: Limited Editions Club, 1941. Quarto
(8-3/8" x 11") bound in bright and colorful hand-blocked gypsy silk
cloth. Illustrated with 37 beautiful ORIGINAL LITHOGRAPHS in color drawn
on the plates by Jean Charlot. Of a total of 1500 copies SIGNED by the
artist on the colophon page, this copy is not numbered (in place of the
number is written in ink "Office Copy") and bears the Club's blindstamp
stating it is one of 15 presentation copies. Perhaps the most stunning
and underrated of the early books from the press. Slight browning to
gutters with a small hole at the front gutter. Spine a little darkened,
as usual, with a little wear to the bottom corners. Near Fine, lacking
the slipcase. (#016343) $125.00
