Samuel Johnson: [A Dictionary of the English Language: In which the words are deduced from their originals, and illustrated in their different significations by examples from the best writers. To which are prefixed A history of the language, and an English Grammar. The Eighth Edition, Corrected and Revised.] London: Printed for J. Johnson, C. Dilly [et al], 1799. Two vols., tall, thick 4to, bound in modern buckram with gilt-lettered leather spine labels.

Vol. I bound without the half-title, title-page and frontispiece; begins with "The History of the English Language"; the half-title and title are present in vol. II. Modest wear to the bindings, one corner repaired; toning and occasional mild browning to the leaves, some intermittent light foxing, but generally quite clean and sound, firmly bound. An imperfect but textually complete early edition of one of the most significant English-language works ever printed.
