Gaius Julius Caesar: C. Julii Caesaris quae extant. Ex emendatione Ios. Scaligeri. Lugduni Batavorum [Leiden]: Ex officina Elzeviriana, 1635. Small 12mo (12.5 cm) in full 19th-century vellum tooled in gilt; [22], 561, [69] pp.; engraved title, engraved folding maps, woodcuts. Willems 420; Goldsmid I p. 20.

Considered one of the finest productions from this legendary press. This is the second impression, issued in the same year as the first. In his Complete Catalogue of Elzevir publications, Edmund Goldsmid wrote, "the first [reprint] is extremely fine," and Willems describes it thus: "cette réimpression (de la première édition) est admirablement exécutée [et] copie ligne pour ligne l'édition originale." Complete with the engraved title-page (laid down), three engraved folding maps, five full-page woodcut plates, woodcut vignette, initials and decorations.

Soiling to the vellum binding; text block trimmed a little close at the top, touching the running-title on a few leaves; browning and soiling to the title-page, some spotting and soiling to the early leaves; a few creases and short closed edge-tears to the folding maps; two of the woodcut plates, a vignette and a tailpiece with some early, inexpert (probably juvenile) hand-coloring.
