An early printing of this foundational work of medicine, a collection of Sydenham's most important writings, first published in 1695. Thomas Sydenham (1624-1689) has been called the "English Hippocrates" and the father of English medicine. "One of the greatest figures in internal medicine,… his reputation rests on his first-hand accounts of such conditions as the malarial fevers of his times, gout, scarlatina, measles, etc." (Garrison, Heirs of Hippocrates). Soiling and modest bumping to the vellum binding; even toning to the contents; last two leaves (modern blanks) coming loose at the top, rear paste-down with some moisture damage at the gutter; signature and ink stamps of early 20th-century owner (Dr. G. ten Doesschate of Utrecht).
