Val[eriano] Luigi Berra: Prolegomeni Clinici per Servire d'Introduzione Teoretica allo Studio Pratico della Medicina. Padova: Tipografia della Minerva, 1823. Thick 8vo in early/period vellum and patterned boards, leather spine label; viii + 879 + [1] pp.; with the half-title page. Binding rubbed, modest bumping to the extremities; one leaf soiled and repaired with some loss, intermittent damp-stain to top margins, occasional light foxing, gutter slightly  cracked between two page gatherings; else generally clean and sound, firmly bound. Front blank endpaper with previous owner's name in ink.

Brera (1772-1840) was a leading Italian physician and pathologist, an adherent of Brownianism, who practiced and/or taught in Pavia, Vienna, Leipzig and London. After 1808 he was Chair of Clinical Pathology and Medicine at the University of Padua, and from 1817 to 1822, director of the Hospital of Padua.
