BYERLY, Stephen, of Mooreland township, Montgomery County, Pa. BYERLY'S
NEW AMERICAN SPELLING BOOK, CALCULATED FOR THE USE OF SCHOOLS, IN THE
UNITED STATES. Philadelphia: M'Carty & Davis, 1827. New Edition.
Duodecimo (3-3/4" x 6-1/2") in original sheep-backed boards; 167 pages.
Shoemaker 28348. Illustrated with small woodcuts, about half of which
are crudely colored by hand. The title page bears a large woodcut of a
variation of the United States Presidential Seal, similar to the Masi
Treaty-Seal die of 1825 but not exactly matching. A scarce early
American spelling book. Moderate foxing, early signatures on endpapers.
Some loss of leather on the spine; covers a little loose but firm. Good.
