VIRGIL (PUBLIUS VIRGILIUS MARO). THE GEORGICS. Verona: Limited Editions
Club, 1952. Small quarto (8-1/2" x 12") bound with a green Italian
buckram spine with the title stamped in gold leaf and sides covered with
a hand-made and hand-printed brown-and-green Varese paper; 168 pages.
Translated into English verse by John Dryden with an introduction by
George F. Whicher. Designed by Giovanni Mardersteig and printed at the
Officina Bodoni. Illustrated with wood engravings by Bruno Bramanti, the
prints pulled directly from the blocks. Of a total edition of 1500
copies SIGNED by the artist on the colophon page, this is one of only 15
Presentation Copies with the publisher's blindstamp attesting to such on
the colophon page where instead of a number the initials "G.M." are
handwritten. Acquired directly from the publisher's files, and most
likely the publisher George Macy's very own copy. Spine a little sunned.
Close to Fine in a Near Fine slipcase. A lovely book. (#016589) $150.00
