Illustrated with an engraved portrait of the author, added engraved title, plus 15 engraved plates including the folding view of Batavia (Jakarta, Indonesia). 18th century yellow boards, gilt spine. Spine extremities rubbed, but overall a beautiful, fresh copy, of a rare book.    $8,500.00 (trade discount allowed)
Behr was a soldier under the command of the Dutch East India Company. This diary covers the years 1641 to 1650 when he traveled on a voyage to the East Indies including India, Persia, Ceylon, Indonesia,
 etc. There are many curious plates, including his ship in a storm at night, coconut and cinnamon trees, flying fish, etc. Graesse I. p. 322. Note: some descriptions state "14 engraved plates" in error.
