An examination of the tactics of the Seven Years' War by this professional soldier, mercenary, and military theoretician whose works were studied by many contemporary and later commanders, including George  Washington and George S. Patton. Henry Lloyd (c.1718-1783), a Welshman, fought for Bonnie Prince Charlie against the British in the Jacobite Rising of 1745, for the French against the Austrians in the War of the  Austrian Succession, for the Austrians against the Prussians and vice-versa in the Seven Years' War, and for the Russians against the Turks in the Russo-Turkish War of 1768-74.

Binding rubbed with wear to the edges and bumping to  the corners; part of one folding table torn away, one folding map separated at the fold but complete, other maps with occasional creases and small tears, mostly in the margin; some old paper repairs to the versos; frontispiece map with elaborate penciled additions and marginalia by a knowledgeable early owner; text block a little bumped at the corners; a ca. 1" area of worming to 7 leaves; occasional old paper repairs; scattered light spotting; otherwise quite clean and sound, firmly bound.
