New (the second) English language edition. Lg. 4to. (4),xvi,xii,(8),131,(1)pp. Including (8)pp. of subscriber's names. Parallel text in Persian script with Roman letter alliteration, and the English translation. 19th c. 1/2 brown morocco, gilt & blind tooled spine, over pebbled boards. A presentation copy, boldly inscribed on the half-title, "From the Author." Ownership signature on title and on a blank preliminary.    $1,500.00 (trade discount allowed)
The first English translation of THE ODES of Hafiz was by John Richardson in 1774, but it is only a selection of THE ODES, a quarto of 68pp. Our second translation by John Nott, a large quarto of 132pp., is a more complete translation, with an essay on Hafiz. The half-title reads, "Ketab Lalahazar, az Divani Hafez."
