1840 Springfield Furniture Dealer Billhead.
A billhead dated December 11, 1840, for John G. Creagh, "Dealer in
Cabinet Furniture - Directly opposite the Springfield Hotel, May be
found a very large and splendid assortment of cabinet Furniture, Chairs,
Looking glasses, Mattrasses, Feathers, &c., &c., together with every
other article usually kept in a similar establishment". A very similar
billhead is in the Joseph Downs collection at Winterthur- dated 1842, it
lists the location as at the "Corner of Market & Sandford Sts.,
Springfield". This is probably Springfield, Massachusetts, which at
about that time did indeed have a corner where Market and Sandford
streets intersected.
Single sheet. 7.5"x3.75". Minor soil, light wear. $75-
