EMERSON, Ralph Waldo. ESSAYS: with ESSAYS: SECOND SERIES. Boston: James 
Munroe, 1841 & 1844. First Edition. First Editions of Emerson's two 
essential collections of essays, each uniformly bound in 3/4 green 
morocco leather and boards with gilt rules, gilt-lettered and decorated 
spines, top edges gilt, and marble paper endpapers. BAL 5189 and BAL 
5198; Myerson A10.1.a and A16.1.a-b (Myerson notes that copies of the 
Second Series composed exclusively of first printing sheets are rare. 
This copy has 19 of the 23 points for the first issue sheets, lacking 
only the last four points.). Complete but for three of the original 
endpapers. Light, sporadic foxing to the first volume, moreso to the 
second volume which has a silked title page. Pleasant sunning to the 
spines. Very Good set of the books that secured Emerson's reputation and
