for local Whitehall businesses; 44 plates from photographs. Red cloth,
stamped in blind and gilt; faded area on cover. 9" x 6" Very Good.
By volume, this book is half historical fiction and half business directory
& city almanac. The narrative is set in Whitehall, New York, in 1847, and
based on actual events there during an epidemic of deadly fever blamed on
recent immigrants who had arrived by ship. This is the first book by the
author who went on to write "Twelve Years A Slave." [Wright, American
