First British Edition. Crown Octavo (7 1/2" x 5 1/8"). 381 pp. Preface;
Contents (including summary of each chapter); List of Illustrations. Dark
green cloth hardcover with gilt spine title and chartreuse solid
endpapers. Fine laid paper, top edge rough cut. With black and white
illustrated frontispiece ("The Old House in Frankfort") and nine
additional full-page black and white sketched portraits of the notable
Rothschilds.

Near Fine condition. Faint shelf rub on covers; rubbing on spine ends and
slight fraying at tips of boards; mild spotting on end papers; front hinge
just starting but firm; an occasional small foxed spot, contents very
clean and bright. No previous owners' names or marks. A remarkably
pristine volume, apparently quite scarce in its original binding.
