Charter, By-Laws, Rules And Regulations Of The Ridgeway Club. Incorporated Under The Laws Of South Carolina, 1905. (Np: Ridgeway Club), 1905.
Only Edition, Unrecorded; (i), 16mo; pp; 27, (xi); gilt lettered green cloth, all edges stained red; The Ridgeway Club was a Sportsman’s Club located in Ridgeway South Carolina and founded in 1905. Their goals, “the protection of game and the shooting of the same…. Social intercourse, hunting, fishing, and other sports.” The club was founded by John Magee, Corning N.Y.; William de F. Haynes, New York City, and Clinton G. Gilmore, Lenox Ma. This copy belonged to Haynes, he has signed it on the front cover with the note that it is corrected to February 1, 1918. There are annotations and corrections to the text and pieces of paper with lists etc tipped in as well. In 1918 Haynes had succeeded to the Presidency of the Club. the notable James J. Storrow of Boston is listed as a member in 1918. Contained within are the rules for the members, their dogs, game limits, guests, board, etc. Ridgeway is in central South Carolina, north of Columbia. The foundation of the conservation movement in the late 19th and early 20th century was championed by just such organizations.
