pieces, line drawings & decorative initials totaling to 70 black &
white drawings, all by Rackham. Inscription on front free endpaper,
dated Christmas, 1917, hint of rubbing to the extremities otherwise a
near fine, bright copy, clean and sound, hinges tight; all plates &
original tissue guards present and intact. A very nice copy, one of
the better copies that I have seen. Very Good. Hardcover.
One of Rackham's greatest works. When thinking of Arthur Rackham
one usually turns first to his 'work in Peter Pan in Kensington
Gardens', or his 'Alice in Wonderland'; next, perhaps his
illustrations for 'Grimm's Fairy tales' or 'Undine' stand out. But
his work for on the Malory, one of the great epics of the English
language, is of very high calibre, and the numerous black & white
decorations throughout the text - some with a touch of whimsy, others
with a touch of Beardsley - show a fine attention to detail which was
not included in many of Rackham's later works. A fresh copy of a
masterpiece from the height of his career. $450.00
7. RACKHAM, Arthur [Illustrator]. LAMB, Charles and Mary. TALES FROM
SHAKESPEARE. By Charles and Mary Lamb. Illustrated by Arthur Rackham.

Reprint. First issued by J.M. Dent & Co. in 1909, this later edition
still retains the "First Published 1909" statement on the copyright
page, and is commonly confused with the Dent edition. Large octavo,
original pictorial green clothtitled and with a design in gilt by
rackham on spine & front panel. 304 pp. Colour frontispiece and 11
additional full-page colour plates, plus numerous black & white
drawings within the text, binding and dust jacket artwork, all by
Rackham. Lower edges of front & rear board stained, corresponding
stain to dust jacket at lower edge of front panel, minor chipping &
short tears to the dust jacket, otherwise very good indeed in the
scarce pictorial dust jacket with pictorial paper label reproducing
one of the interior colour plates on front panel. Very Good in Dust
Jacket. Hardcover. $75.00
