LEAR, Edward. NONSENSE SONGS, STORIES, BOTANY,
AND ALPHABETS. London: Robert John Bush, 32,
Charing Cross, S.W. 1871. First Edition, First
Printing. First Edition. Octavo, original
pictorial paper boards with brown cloth spine,
gilt titles on spine. Perfect bound, a term which
I suppose means imperfectly bound - the sheets
were simply glued to the binding mull, with no
sewing of signatures. A consequence of this is
that when the glue dries out - which is in
basically all copies by now - the sheets come
loose. Because of this, almost every copy
encountered today has been rebacked, or rebound,
or reglued, or messed with in some manner. With
this copy, the glue has dried out, and the sheets
are now loose - complete, but unattached to the
binding. This copy is completely unrestored.
Small ding to the fore-edge of the front board,
light wear at edges; spine gilt very bright, a very nice copy.

¶ Contains numerous of Lear's humourous and
nonsense poems, including THE FIRST APPEARANCE IN
PRINT of 'The Owl and the Pussycat'. $350.00 US
