spine. 16 unnumbered pages, printed printed
throughout in light blue, red and black. Wrappers
a little chipped at the edges; a very good copy. Rare.
¶ "Published by Paul Elder and Company and
printed for them by their Tomoye´ Press under the
direction of John Henry Nash, at their Shop in
the City of San Francisco, which lieth at the
Gateway to the Golden West." The author's third book. $650.00

First Edition. Octavo, original publisher's green
cloth titled in black on spine panel. 253 pp.
Spine panel a bit faded, lettering very bright; a
near fine, attractive copy. ¶ A collection of
Occult Detective stories. "Dr. Taverner' runs a
nursing home for people with unusual mental
disorders. He is assisted in the care of these
patients by Dr. Rhodes, the medical
superintendent, and narrator of the stories. The
tales run the gamut of the occult and the
supernatural and include vampirism, astral
projection, necromancy, cursed objects, spirit
communication, spectral manifestations, and very
often mind control. A classic collection, rare in
the first edition. $1,250.00

Octavo, original publisher's brown cloth titled
in gilt on spine panel, top page edges stained
brown. 323 pp. Neat ink name on front free
endpaper, top page edges faded, a fine, bright
copy in the original publisher's pictorial dust
jacket (priced at 7s 6d) which has a couple of
minor chips at spine tips, and a couple of tiny
stains at base of spine panel. A very nice copy.
¶ Weird story of a woman who has become sexually
enslaved to a group of black magicians. $350.00

Norgate Ltd. [1936]. First Edition, First
Printing. First Edition.Octavo, original
publisher's dark blue cloth bordered in blind on
front panel, gilt titles on spine, top edges
stained blue. 383 pp + [1] pp ads at rear. A fine
copy in the original publisher's pictorial dust
jacket printed in green on red backed paper. Top
page edges somewhat faded, but essentially a
fine, bright copy in dust jacket (priced 7s 6d at
base of front flap, changed in ink by the
publisher to 10s 6d). The jacket is very lightly
tanned on the spine panel and has one short,
closed tear at base of front spine hinge but is
overall bright and very attractive. An excellent
copy. ¶ Weird novel of a man who, upon deciding
to study the occult, encounters a curious
bookshop run by an ex-monk who collects books
dealing with strange lore. Together they discover
an ancient monastery where a prior who practised
strange rites was walled up to die. $750.00

publisher's light blue cloth with gilt titles to
spine, top edges stained blue. 316 pp + [2] pp
ads at rear. Spine panel a touch darkened, blue
stain on top page edges faded, minor browning to
endpapers; a very good to near fine copy in the
original publisher's dust jacket printed in dark
blue on on grey/brown stock. The jacket is
price-clipped, has some minor foxing, a bit of
very trifling rubbing / wear at the spine tips,
and a slightly darkened spine panel. Overall, a
very fresh and clean copy in the rare dust
jacket. ¶ Weird novel of Reincarnation and
Ancient Egyptian Magic. The last of Dion
Fortune's occult novels to be published in her
lifetime, and, in the opinion of many, her
greatest literary achievement. $850.00

paste-down, otherwise and overall a fine copy in
the original publisher's pictorial dust jacket
which has one closed small tear to the bottom
edge of the rear panel and is price-clipped. A sharp, clean copy.
¶ Weird occult novel, the sequel to 'The Sea
Priestess' (1938). Dion Fortune's last occult
novel, published 10 years after her death. $150.00
