First Edition of the British Photoplay Edition, 
with stills from the 1929 Silent film directed by 
Alfred Hitchcock and produced by British 
International Films. Octavo, original burgundy 
cloth titled and decorated in gilt on spine and 
front panel. 378 pp + [2] pp ads at rear. [8] pp 
of black & white still inserted within the text, 
not included in the pagination. Issued as 
Reader's Library Book No. 265. A remarkably nice 
copy, nearly fine, the paper off-white and 
creamy, no cracking to the hinges, no ink names 
or bookplates, the fragile cloth lightly 
shelf-worn along the lower edge but otherwise 
virtually fine, in the original wrap-around 
colour pictorial dust which shows a few very tiny 
chps and very faint fading to the spine panel.

¶ Originally published in 1894. A highly popular 
novel of its period, it was set in the Isle of 
Man and concerned a romantic triangle. This is 
the movie-tie-in edition for the1929 British 
silent drama film directed by Alfred Hitchcock 
starring Anny Ondra, Carl Brisson and Malcolm 
Keen. 'The Manxman' was the last silent film 
Hitchcock directed before he made the transition 
to sound film with his next film 'Blackmail'.
